Carlos Lama and Sofia Cabruja |
They are known and loved by the public and the critics, and are now consolidated as a stable duet; they have developed a unique style in interpreting the repertoire for four hands.
They were born in Girona and early on began to study piano; they stood out right away for their exceptional musical talent. After graduating from the Conservatori del Liceu in Barcelona, they continued their training at the lÉcole Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot in Paris and at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford (Connecticut, USA). The two professors who had the greatest influence during this stage of training are the pianists Nina Svetlanova and Luiz de Moura Castro. They attended, at the same time, courses and Master Classes and received advice from personalities such as: Murray Perahia, Claude Franck, Boris Berman, Dominique Merlet and Alicia de Larrocha.
Carlos and Sofia have been a duet since 1987 and this long experience in interpreting fourhand music has gifted them with mutual understanding. Their international career has led them around Europe, America and Asia. They regularly perform in world capitals such as Paris, London, Madrid, Brussels, Rome, Barcelona, Milan, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, and others.
Their musical releases are internationally recognised and appreciated and are made up of various recordings, with a large repertoire of pieces for four hands by Schubert, Brahms, Dvor?k, Debussy, Fauré, Rachmaninoff, released by the music companies Ars Harmonica and KNSclassical. They have also done recordings for RNE, Catalunya Música, Radio France, BBC London and Classic FM Australia.
Carlos and Sofia have always been committed to helping with social needs and they regularly offer benefit concerts. After a series of such benefit concerts, in 2001, for the needy children of the world, they were presented an honorary distinction from UNICEF.
