 Zeger Vandersteene
 

Zeger Vandersteene is a belgian born in Gent. As a small boy he was the soprano soloist in the well known Schola Cantorum of the Cathedral Sent Baafs in Gent. Later as a high tenor he studied at the Academy of Music of his town. He has studied extensively in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Austria, and France, under famous singing teachers.
  Zeger Vandersteene is recognized for his interpretations of a wide variety of musical styles from Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, up to Contemporary music, having worked under of such divers talents as Safford Cape, René Clemencic, Nicolas Harnoncourt, Franz Bruggen, J. E. Gardiner, Philippe Herreweghe, Ton Koopman, etc for historical and authentic interpretation, and under Henry Pousseur, Rudolf Kelterborn, Reinbert De Leeuw for contemporary Music.
  Zeger Vandersteene performed Oratorio, Opera (barock, romantic and contemporary), and Lieder in the whole Europe, USA, Mexico, South America, Israel, Russia and Japan. He recorded for Harmonia Mundi, Erato, Teldec, RGIP, Red Point, Demusic, Philips, Glossa, Arte Nova and Ungaroton. He performed under famous conductors as Peter Maag, Charles Mackerras, Rafaël Frübeck de Burgos, John Prichard, Nicolaus Harnoncourt, Leopold Hager, Hans Graf, Marek Janovski, Enrique Diemecke, Marc Soustrot, Welser-Möst, Jean Fournet, Riccardo Chailly, H. Kobayashi…He soon created six contemporary operas on the international scene. (Amsterdam, Munich, Venice, Berlin, Zurich). 1995 he came for the first time to Japan with the worldknown Orchestra of XVIII century. He performed IX of Beethoven allover the country; now , he is performing 3 to 4 times a year in the most important concert halls (Bach Passions, Mozart Requiem, Verdi Requiem, Schöpfung Haydn, Mozart Masses, Hohe Messe Bach, Magnificat Bach, Schubert Masses…) and sings many Liederabende with Jörg Demus and excellent Japanese pianists.
After singing VIII by Mahler at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico, he has been invited to make a world tour with this masterpiece under E. Diemecke. In 2001 he has been invited for the first to the International Chamber Music Festival “Northern Flowers” in St.Petersburg (Russia) and sang two concerts in the worldknown Glinka Symphonic Hall. The press wrote about “The absolute top of the Festival”.
  Zeger Vandersteene is professor at the state conservatorio in Gent, and gives masterclasses in Germany, Belgium, Mexico and Japan.
